About Us

SGM and the Marketplace of Ideas

As a creative thought workshop, SGM Ideas is looking for anyone interested in bridging academic and practical interests. In order to increase the accessibility and benefit of deep thinking in our culture, the workshop is interested in the production in the topics of religion, culture, philosophy, history, or a comparable interdisciplinary approach of general interest that promotes deep and meaningful thinking on a practical level. All in all, we are interested in taking creative and practical ideas to the marketplace of ideas. In turn, it is our desire to invite folks and scholars to this conversation at a meetingpoint that includes everyone.

In today's world, intellecual exchanges and the pursuit of truth are usually generic discussions reduced to making public policies and advocacy. Today, ideas have lost their specificity. We are constantly assaulted with the proposition that all ideas are alike and are based only on context and perspective. No one is granted permission to hold the good, true, and beautiful applicable to all people for all time. This rejection of this view view denegrates three fundamental human capacities:

One, that ideas and beliefs - like standards and principles - can lead to true personal edification, meaningful relationships and community advancement.

Two, that community prefers a dynamic public square, where ideas accepted or denied with reason and common sense rather than legislated morality from the elite.

Three, the clear distinction between intellectual charity and toleration. That is, alternative ideas, beliefs and convictions other than your own can be respected without compromising your personal positions. On the other hand, charity carries with it an ability to rebuke and discipline irrationality and wrongdoing as unacceptable. Only one who bears the truth can properly rebuke a wrong. Yet, if there is no truth and these three fundamental human capacities are denied, there is no truth and no justification in discipline and correction.

Increasing awareness of the strength of challenging thought and the nature of intelligent ideas among men and women of all walks of life is our goal. The preservation of reason and human dignity depends on freedom, charity, and community. Please email with any questions or with your particular ideas: lwk@sgmideas.com
