GREAT THINKERS PROJECT

A larger task of the culturally and historically minded person living in this world is increasing awareness of specific thinkers in the past; those who devoted their lives in writing and thought to finding a clear and truthful expression of the state of the world. As a matter of valuation, SGM ideas believes these are the best thinkers to know. Not all thinkers have had such honorable conclusions of worldview, but still demand your respect and remembrance. The significance of many thinkers in the record of history is, in many ways, uncharted and misunderstood by many modern thinkers. History has little use for many people on this front. They are, for the mostpart, ahistorical and non-thinking. This makes our task of increasing awareness and, by and large, basic acquaintance with these thinkers valuable.

Find here SGM Ideas' database of thinkers. It is very much like our Great Ideas project, but looks more at the life of each figure and looks to bring to life an awarenss of a thinker's multiple thoughts and ideas without any special consideration for one. If the goal of the Great Ideas Project is to valuate which ideas are great, the Thinkers of History task is to develop a good sense of the specific humans who serve as the source of ideas. This is so the reader might be acquainted with these thinkers and draw some conclusions as to their impact on the present day.

We also wish to honor the spirit of original thinking in these men and women. The merit of doing history in this fashion is found in uncovering firsts and sources. "Who was the first and who was the source to think of that?" will be the larger, working assertion of our categorical choice to include a thinker. It takes a thoughtful person to will to uncover the past in order to understand the present. It also takes a thinker of this stock to consider the sources of the ideas we hold today. As with all of our programs, we know this is a capability of all humans: to appreciate the past and think deeply about it.

We would hope that your discoveries are fruitful. If anything, we wish to promote the use of reason and thoughtful approach in all minds by the discussion of thinkers in the past. Many issues we take for granted and many kernels of knowledge we hold in this day should not be taken for granted. We ought to give credit to those who thought of them first and thought deep and hard about the challenges they presented.
